Many municipalities all around the world are already
investing in environmental education. They promote local events for
orientation and awareness of the general public about environmental
issues and problems experienced in the counties, emphasizing the
internal management of natural resources. Most of the times it is
incorporated some discussions on sustainable development. But still
it is not often address the issue of adaptation to climate change as
an important and indispensable component of sustainable development.
But one should bear in mind that Environmental education is one of
the measures of fundamental importance to the process of Adaptation
to the Global Warming.
It is recommended that environmental education, including adequate information on adapting to climate change, be:
- continued and strengthened where already occurs; and
- initiated in municipalities where do not occur today.[Based in the Final Report of the Research “Education, Information and Local Adaptation Measures to Global Warming” carried on the Fundação Joaquim Nabuco, Recife, 2009]
