Climate change adaptation comprises all spontaneous responses and
planned action taken to cope with the impacts of, or reduce vulnerability to, a
changing climate, as seen in the report Europe adapts to climate change: comparing national adaptation strategies (SWART, 2009, p.25).
As a matter of fact a climate change adaptation action may be classified in relation to the starting point of the process as spontaneous or induced. Each process of change of adaptation, by its turn, may be planned or carried by unplanned acts.
To be clear, a climate change adaptation action may be started as a spontaneous or as an induced response. And the process through which it is carried may be planned or unplanned.
So, one may really englobe all climate change adaptation by saying, in short: climate change adaptation comprises all actions taken to cope with the impacts of, or reduce vulnerability to, a changing climate.
